Nonie Higgins

Nonie exhibited the early signs of a child prodigy. At age 8, her work was exhibited at the Los Angeles Museum. At 12, her work was selected to be shown across Europe as an example of the work of American school children. She was voted 1 of the 5 best California Artists by the Wilshire Ebell Club of Los Angeles.

Her primary medium is oil and she has created hundreds of canvases, many held in private collections. She studied privately with noted California artists, Arden Von De Witz, John Burroughs (son of Edgar Rice Burroughs) and Rosalie Bowen-Love.

Nonie has also served as the Art Commissioner of Indian Wells, California. Her exquisite exhibit of Native American studies was on permanent display at the Indian Wells City Hall from 1986 to 1992.

She has donated several original paintings to the American Cancer Society, Child Help USA and the Los Angeles Commission for Women, for fund raising efforts.

Many of her grandchildren have inherited her artistic gene. As a professional artist, she shares her talents and skills with others, mentoring young artists, as she continues to paint on a daily basis.

Ms. Higgins is a native of Los Angeles. She is a strong supporter of the Los Angeles Commission on Women and is honored to be a part of their unique vision of community involvement. She attended Dorsey High School, Los Angeles City College, Pierce College, Marymount College and the FIDM Los Angeles.
